A letter to myself

Dear Self,

There are a few things that I need for you to remember, from this day until your last one.

First – stop hating yourself so much. You are human and by that design alone are naturally flawed. But by finding purpose in your flaws and lessons in those mistakes, you will become a more improved and less critical you. And in time, I hope that you learn to love yourself, or to see yourself more positively.

Remember that the little things in life matter too. Not just the little moments that happen to you, but the small, sincere things that you contribute to the lives of others. You don’t always need to go out of your way to do huge, life-changing things. Sometimes the things that you do that seem insignificant are the ones that matter the most.

Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from doing, getting, or becoming what you want. You want to become a writer, with your name on a published work—so do it.

Sometimes there will be road blocks that throw you off course for a moment or two. But keep going. Please. Find another route—even though it may be longer and even a little harder. Just don’t give up, whatever you do. Because you’ll regret never knowing more than you’ll regret possibly failing.

I promise you that it will all be worth it in the end.

Remind your friends and family how much they mean to you.

Laugh genuinely at least once a day and don’t be afraid to cry when you need to.

And finally, when you fall in love again, do it fully. Give yourself completely to that person without getting too wrapped up in “forever.” Be present in each and every moment, and appreciate everything. And if it ends, remember and know that you, for however long, were wholly enamored in someone, and it was beautiful. Take away with you those positive aspects. Remember that the heart is resilient and it won’t hurt forever.

Keep these things close to you. It will make life and getting through al l of it a lot easier. This is life and you’re in it. So endure it, process it and be happy in it. Beyond everything else just be happy.
